Senior Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Responsible for managing the assigned team in executing the Primary design /engineering activities.
• Assist and report to immediate superior; manage the Time sheets, initiate KPIs and monitoring performances of assigned team.
• Assist the PM to monitor and adhere to project milestones on engineering especially primary design.
• Responsible for coaching team members and monitoring the design progress.
• Assist the PM to monitor engineering milestones; Responsible for completing the design within agreed schedule.
• Attend technical meetings and assist to resolve technical issues.
• Responsible for multidisciplinary interfacing of substation.
• Responsible for the development of Bentley 3D competencies among team members- develop the equipment/ components library / catalogues using 3D and to prepare all layouts in 3D.
• Technical team lead of electrical design and engineering or large and complex EHV/HV substation projects (air-insulated substations AIS/gas-insulated substations GIS).
• Develop technical concept, single line diagram, layouts, clearance checks, primary engineering - preparation of project Single Line Diagram in Auto CAD/Micro station, along with all relevant calculations such as Short Circuit level, Sizing of the Bus Bars, Selection of Components, etc.
• Prepare electrical layout, earthing layout, equipment earthing details, and lightning protection zones layout, cable routing layout, etc.
• Prepare foundation drawings in Auto CAD/Micro station including cable trenches, showing all relevant sections.
• Prepare LVAC, DC single line diagrams etc,
• Prepare design calculations – CT/VT sizing, Busbar, conductor sizing, Earthing calculation (based on IEEE std.80); Direct Stroke Lightning Protection calculation; Power/control cables sizing calculation etc.
• Familiarity with relevant local (utilities) / international (IEC, BS, ANSI/IEEE) standards.
• Prepare bill of quantities & cost estimation, deviations and clarifications, review of factory acceptance test plan, attend factory / site testing.
• Tender support activities including preparation of drawings, calculations, estimation and costing of complete switchyard materials (conductors, earthing materials, cable etc.,) sending enquiries to suppliers, evaluating technical offer / proposals.
• Thorough checking of design deliverables/submittals prepared by assigned subordinate engineers/team for complying with all relevant technical specification, practices, international IEC/ANSI/IEEE or other local / international standards and best practices and as per company/department procedures.
• Prepare subsystem specifications, specify ratings, check supplier offers / designs and interfaces, auxiliary design.
• Instruct, supervise and coordinate engineering teams within Pestech, internal and external partners, sub-suppliers, secondary engineers, and civil engineers.
• Lead and attend discussions with customers, handle site queries and take necessary actions.
• Overall responsible for managing and leading all engineering activities from project-start till the as-built stage with strict adherence to the project specifications and to the relevant international (IEC, IEEE, BS etc.,) / national standards including the Occupational Health and Safety.
• Coordinate with suppliers / equipment manufacturers / contractors.
• Prepare necessary design input to civil consultants / contractors.
• Involves traveling (local / overseas) -Site visit / design review meeting with customers.
• Attend -as instructed by management/ HOD/department head-Factory Acceptance Tests, factory inspections local and overseas, accompany customer (if applicable) and lead the tests, liaise with manufacturers/project teams in successfully completing the tests, defect or punch list points or other issues etc.
• Brief site managers, supervisors prior to commencement of site installations on the design and other related system for the correct implementation of the design etc.
• Involve and lead the design standardisation – creating standard check lists, forms, templates etc.
• Familiarise with and follow company and department ISO standards policy, procedures, templates, forms etc.
• Any other assignments given to you by your superior from time to time.
• Any other positions appointed to you by the Management (IMS - Integrated Management System) as per memo/supporting documents/information announcement.
